2:00pm – 4:00pm Instructor: Val Lamplough, AINS, API, CPIW
Bio: Valerie Lamplough is a Personal Lines Underwriting Training Specialist with Vermont Mutual. She began her insurance journey back in 1990 at Blue Cross Blue Shield of Vermont. A few years later, she moved into Personal Lines as a producer at a local independent agency—and she’s spent more than 33 years in the field ever since.
Val’s dedication to continuing education has made her a trusted resource for colleagues and clients alike. She’s committed to making insurance feel a little less intimidating—especially for those who are new to the industry. One of her biggest career goals is ensuring the next generation sees the value and opportunities in insurance, helping bridge the gap as so many seasoned professionals retire.
A longtime Vermont transplant from Stoughton, Massachusetts, Val now lives in Danville. She’s a proud mom to two daughters, Katelyn and Hillary, and an even prouder grandmother to Isabella, Crosby, and Percy. Outside of work, Val fully embraces Vermont’s seasons—especially winter. She loves snowshoeing, skating, kayaking, golf, hiking, and biking… and if she ever gives you baked goods, consider it her version of a hug.
Negotiation Skills and Conflict Resolution (ACR)
Everyone has experienced the necessity to negotiate. Conflict management can be used to achieve consensus among individuals and groups and it can increase your understanding of differing points of views. Conflict Resolution will help you learn: to identify positive and negative effects of conflict, to recognize individual differences, how behavior affects conflict and to distinguish the levels of escalating conflict. You will also learn to resolve conflict by understanding yourself and your feelings, using language skills, recognizing discounting and fighting fair. Conflict Resolution can help you optimize your actions in difficult situations.

Preview of Updates to Selling Essentials Classes
As part of the Education Task Force’s ongoing efforts to provide high-quality training courses for the membership, we review and update existing courses within the IAIP catalogue. During this review, we found a hidden gem in the Selling Essentials series of courses. This is a series of six courses that form the basis for a complete selling educational environment.
The existing series was the first of its kind when written; its value is exemplified by the many commercial training companies that have created similar courses. After reviewing the Selling Essentials series, we are taking the lead to bring it up to current sales and marketing standards.
The result of this effort will be a huge win for our members, both as a complete sales and marketing package of courses, and as individual renewal courses. With the addition of a few focused marketing courses, this series could become the core of a future marketing designation.

Balancing Priorities (CLP-A)
In our increasingly competitive world, we all need to be more productive than ever. Not only must we do our jobs in less time and with fewer resources, but we also often work for more than one boss and on more than one team. As a result, we may face conflicting tasks, deadlines, and expectations, making it difficult to identify what’s most important. Furthermore, the transformations in our workplaces brought about by technology have increased the speed and complexity of our work. This course will enable you to properly prioritize your obligations, allowing you to improve performance and productivity. As a result, you’ll also achieve a better work/life balance, minimize the stress related to managing your tasks efficiently, and, ultimately, improve working relationships.
